We are so excited that over the past months more and more of you have started to grow your own food at home in small urban gardens and at allotments across the city!

So we have teamed up with Bute Park plant nursery and local organisations, supported by Food For Life Get Togethers to launch our brand new project; Stay Home, Grow Your Own!

Whether you’re brand new to growing or already have green fingers we want to help you grow your own veg and herbs during lockdown and learn some news skills. As well distributing lovely locally grown seedlings for free across Cardiff we’ll be sharing some simple growing guidance and even hosting a virtual grow-along or two for us all to connect and share skills.

Green Squirrel will be distributing plants in Splott and Adamsdown so if you live in those areas then on Saturday 30th May you can collect your plants from the front garden of 222 Railway Street at 10am.

We advise that you do this as part of your daily exercise. This will be first come first served and we expect a queue so please observe social distancing rules and stay 2 metres apart when collecting.

Or if you cannot leave the house or collect please email Becca@green-squirrel.co.uk and we will deliver your plants directly to your door with the help of volunteers from our local mutual aid group.

Please note the above applies to Splott, Adamsdown and Tremorfa residents only and numbers are limited. If you live in another area of Cardiff please scroll down to find out who to contact about plant collections/deliveries.

We ask that you take just ONE tray or TWO pots (TBC) of the following:

Broad Bean ‘Bunyards Exhibition’

Sweet corn ‘Goldcrest’

Peas ‘Hurst Greenshaft’

Pea ‘Shiraz’

Broccoli ‘Marathon’

Cucumber ‘Carmen’

Cucumber ‘Hana’

Courgette ‘Midnight’

Some of the plants come in trays of nine so maybe you would like to share and swap with your neighbours.

Due to demand this will be first come first served and please remember to observe social distancing rules.

We are happy to be working with local organisations through the Edible Cardiff network to distribute plants across different areas of Cardiff so please get in touch with the group in your area if you would like some plants. Please be aware that these groups are taking part on a voluntary basis and may not have the capacity to distribute plants to all those that request them.

Eartha - Roath/Cathays
