Event Details
Join us for a friendly virtual grow-along and become part of a community of back garden growers across Cardiff and beyond!
This time of year can be busy in the garden so why not take a short break to join us and learn some new skills. In this virtual session we’ll be exploring some interesting and unusual approaches to growing, including forest gardening, no dig and hugelkultur.
We’ll be joined by community member and keen home grower Anna who’ll be sharing her experiences of forest gardening and demonstrating how these principles can be applied effectively even on a very small scale.
Becca and Hannah from Green Squirrel will be demoing step by step how to make a Hugelkultur no-dig raised bed - these are mounded beds that incorporate old bits of wood and garden clippings. They hold moisture, build fertility, maximise surface volume and are great spaces for growing fruit, vegetables and herbs - plus they look pretty cool too!
Also we’ll be hearing from local community growing group, Stargallot, all about their allotment site and the work they are doing in Splott and Adamsdown.
This will be a fun opportunity to pick up new skills, share tips and connect our growing community. Whether you are brand new to growing or have lots of experience we’d love you to join us. You can choose a free ticket, make a donation or even choose to be sent some seeds in the post.
About the session:
This will be a friendly and informal zoom session and everyone is welcome. Feel free to join whilst you're eating your tea or hanging out with your kids! We will send you an email the week prior to the event with all the info you need to join us live. We will begin the session with a quick introduction to using zoom so that you feel comfortable taking part and asking questions.
Ticket prices and free places:
We want our events to remain affordable and accessible so we will always reserve a number of free places for those that find the price prohibitive - no catches, no questions, we trust you and want to support you to learn new skills.
If you’re interested in holding a workshop like this for your organisation then please get in touch for a chat: becca@green-squirrel.co.uk
We are very grateful for the support of the Community Fund.
